School Psychologist / Student Well-Being Counselor

Reports To: Vice Principal / Principal

Position Summary

The School Psychologist supports the academic, emotional, social, and behavioral development of students from Grades 9–12. The psychologist works collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and school leadership to promote student well-being, mental health, resilience, and a positive school culture.

The successful candidate will provide counseling services, conduct assessments when appropriate, support safeguarding initiatives, and contribute to the school's student support systems.

Key Responsibilities

Student Counseling & Support

  • Provide individual and small-group counseling for students.
  • Support students experiencing stress, anxiety, emotional difficulties, friendship issues, or academic challenges.
  • Develop intervention plans for students requiring additional support.
  • Maintain confidential student records and case notes.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)

  • Design and deliver well-being programs and workshops.
  • Promote resilience, emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and positive relationships.
  • Support the integration of SEL practices across the school.

Assessment & Referrals

  • Conduct behavioral and emotional assessments when necessary.
  • Identify students who may require additional intervention or external specialist support.
  • Refer students and families to appropriate external services when required.

Safeguarding & Child Protection

  • Serve as a member of the school's safeguarding team.
  • Monitor student welfare concerns and report concerns according to school safeguarding procedures.
  • Support investigations and follow-up actions related to student welfare.

Parent Support

  • Meet with parents to discuss student well-being concerns.
  • Provide guidance on adolescent development, emotional well-being, and effective support strategies.
  • Conduct parent workshops and information sessions.

Teacher Collaboration

  • Work closely with teachers to support student learning and behavior.
  • Provide strategies for supporting students with emotional or behavioral needs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary student support meetings.

Crisis Intervention

  • Respond to student crises and urgent well-being concerns.
  • Develop safety and support plans where appropriate.
  • Assist the school leadership team during emergencies involving student welfare.

School Culture & Well-Being

  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
  • Organize Mental Health Awareness activities and Well-Being Week initiatives.
  • Contribute to policies related to student welfare and inclusion.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, School Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with children or adolescents.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • English language proficiency is an advantage.

Preferred

  • Experience in an international school.
  • Training in safeguarding and child protection.
  • Experience supporting secondary/high school students.
  • Additional qualifications in counseling, mental health, or SEL programs.

Employment Type: Full-Time
Working Hours: Monday–Friday, according to the school calendar
