Heriot-Watt University is expanding its international footprint through its Kazakhstan Campus in partnership with Zhubanov University. Key duties and responsibilities
- Teaching Academic English and Study skills lessons and tutorials to undergraduate students from a range of STEM disciplines.
- Delivering and marking assessments and following the required assessment procedures and protocols as requested by the Academic Manager.
- Supervising and mentoring Preparatory Program and Foundation level students.
- Supplementary material development.
- General academic administration, including participation on committees and exam boards, weekly lesson planning meetings, taking responsibility for key discipline-specific administration tasks and mentoring students.
- Undertaking continuous professional development (CPD) and participating in staff development activities.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- All teaching staff must meet the following criteria:
- A postgraduate qualification (MA/MSc/PhD) in English, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related subject.
- CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL or a similar teaching qualification (e.g. PGCert).
- Experience with various assessment types (exams, reports, presentations, etc.)
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Competence with relevant IT tools
- Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
- Ability to work to deadlines
Desirable qualifications include:
- Experience teaching in a university setting.
- DELTA or Trinity DipTESOL.
- TEAP qualification and/or membership of relevant professional body (e.g. BALEAP)
- Familiarity with CANVAS or similar Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle, Blackboard)
- Experience working in an international environment.
- Fellowship in Advance HE or working toward it.
