Job Overview

AIST - American International School of Tashkent is seeking an intellectually engaging, analytical, and objective Government and Law Teacher to join our secondary humanities faculty. The ideal candidate will inspire high school students to examine the structures of power, legal frameworks, public policy, and civil liberties that shape our world. You will be responsible for delivering a rigorous, inquiry-based curriculum (such as AP Government, American Common Core Civics, or IB Global Politics) that teaches students how to evaluate political systems, analyze landmark legal cases, and engage in respectful, evidence-based discourse on complex global and domestic issues.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Curriculum, Planning & Instruction

  • Comparative Political Systems: Design and deliver comprehensive units exploring different forms of government, constitutional frameworks, electoral systems, and the rule of law across various nations.
  • Legal Literacy: Introduce students to foundational legal concepts, international law, human rights frameworks, and landmark judicial decisions, teaching them how to read and analyze legal briefs and statutes.
  • Analytical Skill Development: Train students in advanced academic competencies, including source verification, identifying political bias, structured argumentation, and writing data-driven policy briefs or essays.
  • Objective Dialogue: Facilitate an inclusive classroom environment where diverse viewpoints are respected, teaching students how to debate highly sensitive political and legal topics using logic, law, and evidence rather than emotion.

2. Classroom Management & Interactive Learning

  • Simulations & Roleplays: Utilize active learning strategies such as Mock Trials, Moot Courts, and legislative simulations to bring legal and parliamentary procedures to life.
  • Balanced Assessment: Implement a variety of formative and summative assessments, including analytical research papers, structured debates, case study presentations, and document-based examinations.
  • Global Connections: Help students connect abstract constitutional or political theories to current global events, international relations, and geopolitical shifts.

3. Community Engagement & Co-Curricular Leadership

  • Extracurricular Mentorship: Actively sponsor or coach high-impact student organizations, serving as a primary advisor for programs like Model United Nations (MUN), Debate Club, or Mock Trial competitions.
  • Cross-Curricular Collaboration: Partner with history, economics, and language arts colleagues to build cohesive, interdisciplinary units that enrich students' understanding of societal structures.
  • Professional Standards: Participate actively in department meetings, school-wide accreditation processes, and professional development matching international school standards.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Law, Government, Public Policy, or Social Sciences Education. A valid secondary teaching license or credential is required for international faculty status.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of successful teaching experience at the high school level (Grades 9–12), specifically within an American curriculum, Advanced Placement (AP), or International Baccalaureate (IB) framework.
  • Skills:
    • Near-native or native English language proficiency (written and spoken) with exceptional command over academic and legal vocabulary.
    • Demonstrated mastery of student-centered learning models (e.g., Case-Study Method, Project-Based Learning).
    • High proficiency in integrating educational technology, digital archives, and data analysis tools into social studies workflows.
  • Attributes: Deeply committed to political neutrality in instruction, culturally sensitive, collaborative, and dedicated to fostering global citizenship.
