Purpose
-

To support and maintain a supportive learning environment including maintaining the wellbeing of students in your care.

To follow the policies and procedures as described in the Staff Handbook.

To deliver challenging and engaging classroom lessons.

To support subject teachers in their lessons to enable EAL learners to access the curriculum.

To ensure an inclusive provision in your lessons through appropriate lesson planning and learning strategies.

To carry out school procedures, protocols and administrative expectations accurately and on time.
MAIN DUTIES
Student welfare, wellbeing and health and safety
-
To promote and safeguard the welfare of all students;
-
To maintain good order and discipline amongst students and safeguard their health and safety both when they are on the School Premises and when they are engaged in authorised School activities off site (in line with policy);

To ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to discuss concerns and issues;
-
To follow the Trips & Visits Procedure when planning educational visits.

To support in the monitoring and maintenance of the wellbeing of students.

To foster in students an active and positive attitude to learning which

To generate mutual respect between teacher and learner.

To build confidence and self-esteem in students.

To show care for students and cater for their emotional needs
Teaching and Learning
-
Recognise the dual role of a teacher as being concerned with both pastoral and academic objectives, in classroom and homeroom teaching environments.

Establish expectations for each student which are clear, challenging and achievable.

Generate student interest, enthusiasm and motivation and make learning meaningful.

Demonstrate thorough preparation and purposeful planning which caters for the differing needs of students.

Use a range of effective strategies to support student learning and thinking.

Use effective management which provides a supportive learning environment conducive to learning.

Use a range of diagnostic and formative assessment processes to monitor student performance.

Maintain effective communication with students and parents concerning each student's learning program and progress.

Demonstrate awareness of the particular educational needs of different groups of students and the capacity to develop strategies to meet these needs.

Engage with, and adapt to a variety of school systems, software and technologies that have been implemented to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
Curriculum
-
To liaise with the Head of the EAL Department to ensure the delivery of appropriate, comprehensive, high-quality programmes;

To be responsible for the planning of individual lessons following the departmental long-term and medium-term plans;
-
To keep up to date with and respond to curriculum developments in EAL;
-
To keep up to date with and respond to developments in teaching practices and methodology.

Maintain positive and supportive interactions with parents and visitors

Work as a cooperative member of the school ensuring harmonious relationships are maintained and delegated responsibilities are fulfilled

Management Information
-
To register classes every lesson on ALMA;
-
To report incidents on Alma.
-
To maintain the confidentiality of information on Alma.
-
To ensure that the reporting procedures are followed according to guidelines.
Communications
-
Consult and advises parents regarding individual students.
-
Foster constructive relationships between the school and the community.
-
Use communications with parents to foster positive attitudes towards the school.
Marketing and Liaison
-
To assist and contribute to the school’s marketing activities, e.g. the collection of material for press releases and the school website;
-
To support the development of effective subject links with the education community and the effective promotion of subjects at designated school events.
