Job Overview
American International School of Tashkent (AIST) is seeking an inspiring, collaborative, and student-centered Secondary Mathematics Teacher to join our international faculty. The ideal candidate will possess a deep passion for numbers and logic, combined with the ability to make complex mathematical concepts accessible, relevant, and exciting to a diverse student body. You will design and deliver a high-rigor, inquiry-based math curriculum (aligned with American Common Core, AP, or IB frameworks) that emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving modeling, and real-world data analysis, preparing students for success in an increasingly data-driven world.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Curriculum, Planning & Pedagogy
Inquiry-Led Instruction: Design unit and daily lesson plans that prioritize conceptual understanding over mechanical formula memorization, encouraging students to explore mathematical patterns and relationships.
Diverse Course Delivery: Adapt to teach a range of courses across Grades 6–12, which may include Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, or advanced college-preparatory math programs.
Differentiated Scaffolding: Implement instructional strategies that support language acquisition for English Language Learners (ELL) while providing complex, high-level extension tasks to challenge advanced learners.
STEM Interdisciplinary Connections: Connect abstract mathematical principles to tangible applications in fields such as physics, computer science, economics, and architectural design.
2. Classroom Environment & Assessment
Growth Mindset Culture: Cultivate a classroom tone that reduces math anxiety, encourages collaborative problem-solving, and celebrates mathematical errors as essential steps in the learning process.
Balanced Assessment Practices: Utilize frequent formative assessments (e.g., conceptual tasks, exit tickets) and comprehensive summative evaluations (e.g., analytical projects, traditional exams) to monitor student growth and inform teaching pacing.
EdTech Integration: Skillfully integrate digital tools to visualize mathematical behavior, including dynamic graphing software (Desmos, GeoGebra), physical graphing calculators, and interactive learning management software.
3. Professional Standards & Extracurricular Contribution
Departmental Collaboration: Engage in regular professional learning communities (PLCs) with colleagues to align horizontal and vertical curriculum progressions across grade levels.
Extracurricular Enrichment: Actively contribute to campus life by sponsoring math clubs, coaching students for competitive regional tournaments (e.g., AMC, MathCounts, CEESA events), or leading after-school academic support sessions.
Community Relations: Maintain clear, proactive, and professional communication with multinational families regarding student progress, learning strategies, and achievements.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related STEM discipline. A valid, recognized secondary teaching license or professional credential is required.
Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of successful mathematics teaching experience at the secondary level, ideally within an American, AP, or International Baccalaureate (IB) educational environment.
Skills:
Near-native or native English language proficiency (written and spoken) to clearly articulate complex logic and mathematical reasoning.
Proficient mastery of secondary mathematical sequences and modern mathematical software.
Demonstrated skill in student-centered teaching models like Project-Based Learning (PBL) or visible thinking routines.
Attributes: Patient, culturally sensitive, analytical, highly organized, and deeply committed to continuous professional growth.
Qualified candidates are invited to submit their curriculum vitae (CV) and relevant supporting documents for consideration.
