Job Overview

AIST - American International School of Tashkent is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and culturally proud Uzbek Language Teacher to join our international faculty. The role involves delivering engaging, student-centered language instruction to a diverse, multicultural student body. The ideal candidate will design pathways for both local students (deepening their native literacy and appreciation for classical literature) and international expatriate students (developing conversational fluency and a rich understanding of Uzbek traditions, hospitality, and heritage).

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Curriculum Development & Language Instruction

Differentiated Language Pathways: Design and implement dual-track lesson plans:

Uzbek Language Acquisition: Immersive, communicative language lessons focusing on practical speech, listening, and foundational literacy for foreign learners.

Uzbek Literature & Heritage: High-rigor text analysis, creative writing, and literary discussion for advanced or native speakers.

Inquiry-Based Learning: Align the local language curriculum with Western educational frameworks (such as the International Baccalaureate PYP/MYP or standard American inquiry models) that prioritize conceptual understanding over rigid memorization.

Cultural Integration: Bring Uzbek history, folklore, music, craft, and regional traditions to life inside the classroom using multimedia resources, storytelling, and interactive projects.

2. Classroom Environment & Student Support

Inclusive Atmosphere: Maintain an encouraging, positive classroom culture where non-native speakers feel safe making mistakes and experimenting with a new language.

Scaffolded Assessments: Utilize a balance of formative and summative assessments (including oral interviews, situational roleplays, and reflective writing) to monitor and celebrate student progress.

Resource Curation: Select, adapt, and translate authentic local resources into accessible instructional materials to bridge the gap for English-medium international learners.

3. Whole-School Community & Cultural Leadership

Cultural Ambassador: Play a leading role in organizing school-wide celebrations of local holidays, most notably Navruz, Uzbek Language Day, and Independence Day events.

Community Connections: Coordinate experiential learning opportunities, such as local community service initiatives, educational field trips to historical sites (e.g., Chorsu Bazaar, local museums), or workshops with local artisans.

Collaborative Planning: Work alongside international faculty members to design interdisciplinary units (e.g., combining Uzbek history with Secondary Humanities or traditional patterns with Visual Arts).

Job Requirements & Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Uzbek Philology, Uzbek Language and Literature Education, or a closely related field. An international teaching qualification or certification is a strong asset.

Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of experience teaching Uzbek, ideally within an international, bilingual, or premium private school environment.

Language Skills:

Native fluency in Uzbek (mastery of both Latin and Cyrillic scripts).

High professional proficiency in English (written and spoken) to communicate effectively with international leadership, expatriate parents, and colleagues.

Teaching Methodology: Demonstrated familiarity with modern, student-centered language acquisition techniques (e.g., Communicative Language Teaching, Task-Based Learning).
